Katy Proper

 

Katy, Texas residents split the city into two sections:  “Katy Proper” (or Old Katy) as some might call it and the other “Katy Area.”  Old Katy is in the actual city limits of Katy and lies mostly north of I-10.  Some residents still refer to “Katy Proper” as the “Original Katy”.  “Katy Area” consists of medical facilities, shopping, dining, golf courses, new upscale developments, and many Master planned communities.  When you hear the term “Greater Katy”, they are speaking of both “Katy Proper” and “Katy Area”, a suburban area on the West side of Houston.

The City of Katy, also known as Katy Proper, was once open prairies and Indian hunting grounds.  Today this quaint old town offers small town charm with modern touches.  Katy Proper offers something for everyone.  Prices range from $75,000 up to well over $1 million.  Katy Proper offers older homes as well as modern, newly developed homes in every budget to suit all buyer's taste.

Katy Proper offers several recreational facilities, historical venues and community inspired attractions throughout the year.  Famous for the Katy Rice Harvest Festival, Katy Craft Show and the Katy Country Peddler Show there truly is something for everyone in this great town.   Mary Jo Peckham Park and Heritage Park are two famous attractions in the Katy area. The Harris County Library has a branch within Katy as well.  Katy Proper's location to hospitals, elder care facilities, major roadways and commercial areas make it one highly sought after area of West Houston currently and many believe for years to come.  Zoned to the acclaimed Katy Independent School District, Katy Proper is best know for the State Football Champions, The Fighting Katy Tigers, who call Katy Proper home.
